Nathan’s brainchild Dream Big Community Center (DBCC) was a 501c3 nonprofit organization founded in 2004. The organization was founded to help the development of young adolescents in the Vancouver, Washington and Portland, Oregon Metropolitan area. DBCC was created to bring back the value of community to neighborhoods, and to allow all people to follow their dreams – no matter what age they may be!
Ultimately, Dream Big’s vision was to create community centers nationally and internationally. Dream Big would expand to cardinal cities within the metro area nucleus after the first center was built, financially stable, and successful in completing the mission statement. Once Dream Big was established in the metropolitan area and the four surrounding cities, the center would expand in helping individuals fulfill their dreams.
Dream Big’s programs started with Kevin Carroll’s book, Rules of the Rubber Ball and created Dream Big 101. Once Nathan received his first opportunity, he launched many more programs that served ages 12 to 18.
In 2008, DBCC created three different opportunities to reach out to a neglected demographic, at-risk youth. The programs were Dream Big 101 (DB 101), the Dream Big Essay Contest, and Banking on Our Future. DBCC’s flagship and the most popular program was DB 101. Dream Big’s success in Clark County quadrupled income; and doubled our donors, partnerships, and sponsorships.
In 2010, DB 101 had over 600 students in four different schools. The organizational growth and high demand for programs with DB 101 allowed the program to become a Washington state accredited class.
