Build Your Brand

I was honored by a colleague, Bruce Elgort, to speak with his students about school, business, and life all-in-one. Initially, I wasn’t quite sure what to speak about. This was my first time to have this opportunity to be an open book, so I chose what worked for me and told my story.

My story is my brand. Therefore, why not tell my story?!

Bruce told me he records them and puts it on his website for a reference, and uses it for a future resource for his students. I could relate because I attempt to do the same in my Business 101 classes with my speakers.

My Brand Story

Out of high school, I had no idea of my potential. I was just living life. I’m grateful for all the prayers that protected me from my foolishness and ignorance because I had a big head.

Thank God for all the prayers.

My “Brand” Wake-Up Call happened in 2013 when I completed my marathon.

After my marathon was done, which was a goal I had for 12 years, I found a lot of my personal demons no longer existed. A huge weight was uplifted. It was almost as if I was baptized out of personal regret.

I was awakened to a new world.

Think of it this way, your brand is synonymous with your name. Your name has clout at your job, bank account, driver’s license, and so many other things. So when you say your name in a certain place and with specific people, there’s an expectation.

At that moment, my reality was I had so much more to accomplish and I was settling. Even though I loved my nonprofit, it wasn’t enough. I needed more.
