We Do Business Consulting

Too many times I’ve gone to industry experts for business consulting to be let down. For countless years, I’d hear an echoing from one person to another. The meetings were more of a monologue of what I should or could do.  At the end of our meetings, I walked away with good advice but nothing immediate.

In all fairness, not of all these meetings were true business consultants. However, people love to give advice but not all of it’s good. I had to apply the 80/20 rule. Out of 100%, the 80 was ego and 20 was information. What I did with the 20 was up to me.

Using Information and Accessible Resources

Having meetings weren’t a waste of time, but they weren’t the differentiating element I needed for my business. No one told me I needed a business consultant; but I wasn’t told to acquire one either. Starting any type of business requires a diligent person researching every resource. The only problem, you don’t know what you don’t know.

We’ve all had some simple questions. You did a web search and found some answers. It wasn’t too difficult, right?SBA

  • Where do you start a business?
  • What paperwork is needed for me to start?
  • How to create a business plan?
  • Who do I have to speak with?
  • Can my product be my busines?

The above questions are easily answered by your state. Look up your state business department. For example, type in “start a business in ___________” and you’ll get lots of hits. Or you could just use a federal resource in the SBA, which stands for the Small Business Administration. They have lots of business resources for you.

Do You Need a Business Consultant

The SBA will give you information on request, but they’re not business consultants. Local leaders can also give you great information and resources, but they’re not consultants. Business consultants are for organizations in assistance for a specific task.

For a business owner, the challenge is to find the right business consultant. Business consulting can be tricky due to the various types of business, industries, and challenges. There’s no one size fits all model. You as the business leader needs to understand what type of business consulting you need for your organization.

A business consultant is more of an expert you turn to for help with your business. They teach you skills you don’t know, analyze your business and create an action plan for you to implement.

They are well versed in business planning and strategy, which they use to help gauge the direction and scalability of your business. They also work with you regarding customer acquisition and retention, systems, packaging of services, pricing, sales and marketing!

Business consulting is a pertinent and integral component for growth. Most entrepreneurs and small business leaders use a consultant because they’re focused on running the business. We only have 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Working hard doesn’t always cut it. Working smarter and using wisdom is my experience that works best. Otherwise, I recommend you fail fast, fail hard, and fail forward.

For those that don’t want to fail forward, I don’t blame you. You don’t have to do it alone. There’s no way around taking calculated risks. We as entrepreneurs all have to do it. However, not all startups go into this journey alone and hire a business consultant.
