Searching for a Family SUV

Searching for a Family SUV

The time has come for me to start searching for a family SUV (aka, sports utility vehicle). Yes, not a family car- a family SUV. I’m 6’2″ and in need of leg room. I started this search with wanting a Chevrolet Tahoe, but the prices for upper-tier vehicle are not realistic which is also disappointing. I’m sorry, but I’m not paying over $60k for a Tahoe.

After prodding around and checking out my Acura MDX, I realized I didn’t fit in this car. This was a COMPLETE bummer. I’ve been eyeing these cars for years. I didn’t believe it was really necessary for me to look around, because the MDX was going to be perfect for me- but it sent me back to the drawing board still searching for a family SUV.

Now I’m not sure if I even want a SUV, but I do. I’m just a little frustrated about the experience, even though I’m not a stranger of buying cars. Truth be told, the marketing of these agencies have done a phenomenal job. Searching for a Family SUV

One vehicle that took me by surprise was the Kia Sorrento. The folks at Dick Hanna Kia, Mr. Vince Onyeagusi, sold me on the Sorrento when I was laughing inside. The Sorrento he showed me was beautiful inside and out. Honestly, I was impressed. His manager jokingly said it was the Korean BMW. One of my first cars was my mom’s BMW, and I felt like it was a luxury vehicle. And for the price, I felt good.

Last but not least, I couldn’t disregard the sibling of my faithful Toyota Camry. Her sibling the Toyota Highlander had me at “Hello!” with the metallic gray paint (but so did the Kia). Toyota’s amenities were/are extremely impressive. I had to drive a 2014 because they’re all sold out of 2016’s- now that’s a good problem to have!! What really blew my mind is that Highlanders hold their value impressively well.

Man, oh man! Decisions, decisions!! Searching for a family SUV is no joke. Unfortunately, I can’t say which one I’d choose if I purchased one today, but the Highlander and Sorrento are my top two. My tip for those who are searching for their family vehicle is simple. You need to definitely test drive it!! In addition, play with all the buttons and learn which format of technology is right for you. For me, I love the service I receive from Toyota- so that’s why Highlander may have a slighter edge.
